“A school, started in 1854, had
an attendance of 30 pupils thirty years later, but the enrollment fluctuated,
increasing to 47 in 1894. By that time, some of the school-going population
were attending Anglican or Wesleyan schools, and when these church institutions
eventually ceased to exist, enrollment at the government school, as it was then
called, increased to 159 in 1896.”
During 1900 was this government school use for a hospital.
